Attorney Objects To 10 Commandments On Judges' Robe

"An Alabama judge has rejected an attorney's objections to his judicial robe, which has the Ten Commandments embroidered in gold on the front.

Lawyers say the commandments are big enough to be read by anyone sitting close to Covington County Judge Ashley McKathan.

Attorney Riley Powell, who's defending a client charged with driving under the influence, said he objected to the robe and asked that the case be delayed, but the judge denied both motions.

If he loses the case, Powell said he expects the judge's wearing of the Ten Commandments robe to be part of an appeal to the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals.

McKathan said he intends to keep wearing the robe because the Ten Commandments represent the truth."
