Pop art at Okoboji; S.D. Artists Series (Pop artist Larry Rivers)

"A colorful oil painting wider than most people's outstretched arms, 'Doing Art' is a look at children drawing with crayons and the art they are creating, superimposed in one picture.

The unconventional perspective is by Larry Rivers, a pop artist from New York who died in 2002. The painting, and other work by Rivers, is on exhibit through the end of August at the Lakes Art Center in Okoboji, Iowa.

Rivers has an Iowa connection: He was commissioned to create several works for the Pearson family of Winterset, Iowa, during the mid-1980s."
