Artist Profile: Kojo Griffin : : Work

At first glance, Griffin's figures are oddly endearing mutants. Human bodies, dressed and detailed with hats, dresses, pants, pocketbooks, and other ordinary things, have heads of identifiable or imagined animals. Birds, elephants, bears, and other beasts occupy the common places of Griffin's restive world, Visually, they possess stereotypical features that shrewdly subvert the characteristics and attributes we might expect. We may think we know these sweet, displaced characters, yet interpretations remain tenuous. (article)

A slew of Kojo's imagery at Miller Block Gallery.
