Slashdot | Human Origins Theory Tested By Recent Findings

annamadrigal writes "The BBC news is reporting on findings presented in Nature which suggest that Homo Erectus and H. Habilis were in fact sister species which co-existed. This challenges the view that the upright humans evolved from the tool users."

YouTube - Battle at Kruger

At first I thought it said 'Battle at Kroger' and was wondering watch kind of fight at a grocery store would garner almost 9.5 million views...

YouTube - This Is Sparta! ~Another Techno Remix~

(from YouTube) http://www.keaton-world.com/music/Fun... (so people stop asking)
Good news! On the search engine, this is the first video for the commonly searched for "This is sparta" term!
200,000 views! And still a good rating after all of them!
After the success of the old, I got requests for there to be more than 4 scenes in the video. That has been done. The song is still by Keaton, and the video by me. The only thing different is the scenes that the video contains.

The Best Online Social Networks for Students

The Best Online Social Networks for Students

Back when your parents were in school, they actually had to initiate in-person conversations if they wanted a social life. Of course, that was when they weren't walking two miles to school, in the snow, uphill -- both ways.

You pesky kids have it so easy these days with your darn social networks!

Online social networks have certainly made it easier to make -- and stay in touch with -- school friends. Whether you're trying to get back in touch with an old school posse, or looking for a new one, the process is less risky and can often be more fruitful when it happens online. And it can help you find the right group, too. Why be alone this fall when you could be getting together with fellow members of the "Emo Is The New Rad" group on Bebo?

But no matter how big of a slacker you are, you surely won't have time for all the social networks out there. No worries. There is no need to pledge allegiance to just one. At last year's Web 2.0 Summit, Marc Canter, chief executive officer for Broadband Mechanics, estimated that the average user is an active member of five social networks.

Cynical-C Blog - Giant Lego man washed up on Dutch beach

Picture at link:

A giant, smiling Lego man has been fished out of the sea in the Dutch resort of Zandvoort.

Workers at a drinks stall rescued the 2.5-metre tall model, which had a yellow head and blue torso.

“We saw something bobbing about in the sea and we decided to take it out of the water,” said a stall worker. “It was a life-sized Lego toy.”

WFMU's Beware of the Blog: 365 Days #216 - Hobo Conversations and Interviews (mp3s)

mp3 files at link:

Can't recall who this cassette (mp3 link Part 1) came from, but if you are out there drop a line. I received it on cassette around 1996 or 1997 in the mail and I do remember it came from the recorder, just can't remember who was recording this and riding the boxcars. The only writing on the cassette is "Hobo Conversations and Interviews - Conversations with Sidedoor Pullman Kid Hop-A-Long Chet Dante and Austin John". I think you'll really enjoy track 3 when they burst into song.

Step inside the boxcar, the whistle is about to blow.

Apple's new iMac - Engadget

Apple's new iMac - Engadget

Who could've seen this one coming? Apple surprised no one this morning with brand new iMacs. Built from aluminum and glass, the new all-in-one desktops feature a complete, slimmer redesign and will come in two sizes: 20-inch and 24-inch. There's the usual compliment of ports like USB 2.0, Firewire 400 / 800, a slot loading SuperDrive, iSight camera and so forth. The new look features a glossy display to match the majority of Apple's consumer lineup, and new keyboards are indeed coming along for the ride -- in an extended wired version as well as a mini wire free model, running the Bluetooth 2.0 spec.
